Newport Beach

Enjoy the coastline and the weather in luxurious Newport Beach.

Welcome to Newport Beach

Newport Beach has a lot to offer. Famous for "the Wedge," one of the best bodysurfing locations in the world, Newport Beach is also well-known for its Balboa Island. Residents here never lack exceptional views and a lot of activity.

Residential communities are comprised of beachside neighborhoods, some gated, some not, but all with height restrictions to allow fabulous views of the Pacific Ocean for as many as possible. Newport Beach offers a fabulous year-round climate. The architecture is eclectic with a blend of early 20th-century housing to modern. The area exudes opulence with the harbor populated with some 4,300 boats docked within the harbor.

Local Lifestyle

Newport Beach offers a mix of urban and suburban with a blend of all age groups. Restaurants range from crab shacks to 5-star fine dining on the Balboa Peninsula and the local interior. There is plenty of park space along with miles of beaches. You can stroll the Ocean Front Walk or one of the piers while taking in views that go on for miles.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

There is never a shortage of fine dining in Newport, although, due to their popularity, reservations are recommended in many locations. At Mastro's Ocean Club on E. Coast Highway, upscale clothing is required. Open for dinner nightly, entrees range from a selection of steaks and chops to seafood.

Proprietor and Executive Chef Bernard Althaus followed in his family heritage of Swiss restauranters, only he brought his talents to the U.S. Serving Swiss dishes at the Basilic Restaurant on Balboa Island for 25 years, Althaus continues to season his dishes with fresh herbs from his own organic garden. Basilic Restaurant is open for dinner only, Tuesdays – Saturdays.

There are many shopping locales in Newport Beach, but for some of the best shops and eateries all in one location, Fashion Island has so much to offer. When it comes to clothing you might want to stroll through some of the many fashion boutiques and other stores featuring home goods, jewelry, accessories, and beauty supplies. There are dozens of eateries and food booths too. But if you just want to relax, choose from the latest in films, at the multi-screen complex of The Lot Movie Theater.

Things to Do

There is always much to see and do in Newport which draws many tourists as well as locals. For the younger set, the biggest attraction may be the Balboa Fun Zone, a magnet for visitors for nearly a century. Arcades are plentiful along with amusement rides including a Ferris wheel for even higher, wider views of the area. Newer additions include a bungee jump and rock-climbing wall. And there are plenty of restaurants and shops to stop in for the whole family.

Take your choice of piers to stroll with early morning or evening offering the most peaceful time. Newport Beach Pier is considered one of the area's most iconic landmarks, dating back to 1940. The original pier was destroyed years earlier by a hurricane. For many, the pier is a prime fishing spot. For others, it's the opportunity to take in the views.

The Balboa Pier, located next to the Fun Zone, offers similar picturesque views. Built in 1906, this pier is also prized by fishermen, but here you can also grab a burger from the local diner, Ruby's, out over the water.
